We toured the Seelye mansion in Abilene, Kansas last week. This photo is looking up at the staircase to the top two stories. The 25 room Georgian style home was built in 1905 and furnished with items purchased at the 1904 St. Louis World Fair. Everything in the home is original, nothing has been removed or sold off. It is an amazing piece of Abilene history.
@pdulis@mave@nicolecampbell@henrir@beryl@carolmw@radiogirl@ludwigsdiana@gijsje This mansions is one of the 8 architectural marvels in Kansas. The owner was a Patent Medicine Doctor at the turn of the century, the phrase “snake oil medicine” comes to mind. He sold enough of his concoctions to have the grandest home in Kansas. It is an amazing place, the top floor was a ballroom, the basement has a bowling alley. Thank you so much for your comments and fav on the staircase, it was something to see.
@joansmor@happysnaps@onewing@carole_sandford@danette Thank you all for your comments! The tour was starting and I only had time for one photo of this. I couldn’t help but think how nice it would be to lay down on the floor in the middle of the staircase to capture the entire scene!
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments, I appreciate every one of them!
love it
