When we travel, I use the Trip Advisor app to find interesting things to see and do at our destinations. Even though I had never heard of any waterfalls around Joplin I thought these would be something to see. Some of the reviews made me think these were indeed “grand”. My first clue that something was amiss was that there was no signage on the highway indicating where to turn. I found an address for the Falls and put it in GPS, then we drove for miles. We literally would have missed this if we had been looking the other way. GPS didn’t really know where we were. So I hopped out of the car and took a few photos of these falls on Shoal Creek in Joplin, Missouri. We laughed about this, as the falls are maybe 5 feet tall and the surroundings are not lovely or grand, ha!
Your story made me laugh. You wonder how they make up these travel reviews ! Still, it technically is a waterfall, even though they are not very grand.
Interesting story made me smile we have all had a similar experience, but are you sure the GPS got you to the right location in the car park on Riverside Drive, Joplin or is the shot just the lower part of the falls Lou Ann:)
@gijsje I know! Ha! @mittens I do think it has to be prettier in the spring! The bare trees didn’t make it better! @mave Thank you! And thank you for the fave!
@cindymc Thank you and thank you for the fave! Well, it did look eerie. I really cropped a lot of tumbled up branches there. Evidently this is not an area that receives any maintenance! @carolmw Thank you, Carol!
Well, I guess that's grand in Joplin, but not here where one of our falls (Raymondskill Falls) is called the Niagara of Pennsylvania! (Although I must say it's not for the width, but the height) Still, I like your persistence in finding it and they are pretty even if the setting is not the greatest.
Love your narrative...made me smile! Well, you did a wonderful job capturing these falls to make them look quite grand. I've had similar disappointments . . . just last week on the day I went driving in the Hill Country looking for bluebonnet photos I drove from Fredericksburg to Marble Falls because there was supposed to be a place called "Bluebonnet House" there, a charming old country house surrounded by a yard full of bluebonnets . . . well, I followed the GPS directions but the final destination WAS NOT a "bluebonnet house". I never did find it. Fortunately, I came across several fields of bluebonnets so the trip wasn't a total disappointment but I sure had my hopes up for that "bluebonnet house". :-)
