This feeder is designed for small to medium birds, if a heavy squirrel stands on one of the perches the cylinder slides down and closes the feed slots. It has been hysterical to watch the squirrels try to get into it. We have safflower seeds in it, that squirrels don’t like, but they keep checking to see if just maybe it has magically started holding seeds they like.
i love the colour tones here but maybe it's just the really out of focus wire in the foreground. the bird on the left though has really nice pleasant colours. aces on the composition, too!
Great texture on this shot - like the design of the feeder - people have had to spend a lot of time trying to outwit the squirrels - and it's made them good money. Now if I could just find someone who can outwit the moles! They've made my backyard a horror to mow.
@mittens@365karly1@summerfield@ludwigsdiana@ziggy77@pistache@carolmw@gijsje@beryl@happypat@milaniet@happysnaps@radiogirl@carole_sandford@joansmor@gazzatron Thank you all so much for your wonderful comments and favs. You put these sweethearts on the TP and PP. thank you so much. @summerfield I have a confession to make, I have white wooden blinds in this window and they are so heavy and hard to raise I usually leave them down. The sun reflects on them onto the window so they show as pale straight white lines on photos! I rarely post a photo with the lines but I thought this one worked so I went ahead and posted it. @milaniet Have you tried Juicy Fruit Gum dropped down into the mole holes? My friend in California swears by it. Moles sure are hard on yards and they do make it dangerous to walk.
Awesome shot of Mr. and Mrs. Finch, Lou Ann! I agree with Vikki...the color tones are really special in this photo. I'm thinking about getting one of these "squirrel buster" feeders because I hear they also work on keeping the heavy doves away from the seed. Lately I've been having more trouble with doves than squirrels. They gobble up the seed in no time at all and they scare off the other birds. :-(
A really cute capture! I too love the colors! I wanted something to use to feed the squirrels in my backyard and all the feeders said "squirrel proof." So, I just put food out on the top of my fence because it is flat and a highway for squirrels, my cat, birds, etc. It is funny to see all the shell droppings in the dirt. Some birds stop by and grab a peanut or seed before flying off. Next I want a hummingbird feeder and bird feeder too. :)
@gaylewood As it turns out this really is a small bird feeder. I put my open feeder with safflower seeds in the back and the doves eat there. They don’t seem to like that location as well though. I think this squirrel resistant feeder has brought small birds to our yard for the first time. We have sweet, flitty Chickadees too.
I have one of those too and watch the same antics. We've got sunflower seeds in ours but the poor squirrels can't get a single one unless some hapless bird drops theirs on the ground. Good shot of this lovely pair!
