I took this pano of the Blackbird at the Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. It is 125 feet long with a wingspan of 65 feet. It flew 2,300 miles an hour at a height of 93,700 feet. It was a high resolution reconnaissance aircraft built for the CIA and flown In the late 1960’s. The black color made it look terribly sinister.
I'm always so taken by large aircraft like this - especially when they are flying overhead. Can you imagine flying 2,300 miles an hour?!! Seems so impossible.
Wow! That looks like it is something that could be built today and it came from the 60's- incredible! Great shot too- it's not easy fitting something that long in a picture!
