The closest I can get to a living orchid is at my grocery store, they just refuse to grow for me at home. This lovely was waiting for someone to buy her, I thought her markings were beautiful.
Very pretty! I would have the same problem- our house doesn't really stay warm enough for flowers like orchids. I like how you've really come up close to this one.
Orchids are the easiest plant to grow and come back to flower year after year. A north facing window sill and stand the whole pot in deep water with some food in it every two weeks or so - leave for about an hour to really soak. Drain thoroughly (make sure there in no water left in the pot as they will rot) and just watch them grow. My orchids are all coming into bud at the moment so looking forward to the flowers which will be soon I think.
I love orchids as well and find them very easy to grow...............I always have 2 or 3 blooming and they keep coming back!
Wonderful close up Lou Ann!
@pamknowler my window shades block the light so much that flowers just don’t have a chance. Trust me I’ve tried to grow orchids, many times. I can grow Pothos Ivy inside, that’s about it! Your description of how to care for them is so good, I will try to remember it if I get brave and try to grow one again.
Pam's info on how to grow one sure has me wishing I had a north facing window - don't - and I sure don't have a green thumb. Other than my large kitchen window (facing west) this house doesn't have much light. Like your close-up shot.
Wonderful close up Lou Ann!
