It’s a purse! by louannwarren

It’s a purse!

For the Macro Guess #4 reveal. There’s a leather store in Jackson Hole, Wyoming that carries wonderful leather goods. They have big plate glass windows and when you walk by you can do some serious window shopping. This hobo style shoulder bag was calling my name. It is my winter purse, I honestly don’t think it will wear out in my lifetime. Several of you knew it was a purse!
Oh I see now. Very clever. I wouldn't have guessed it.

@domenicododaro if you have visited them you have probably walked right by this shop. Jackson Hole brings out the poet in people.

A lovely one too, just out of interest Lou Ann, what would you call the thing you put your money in, we would say purse, and call this a handbag, or shoulder bag?!

Beautiful leatherwork! When things are well made like this, they last forever.

Great close up............really hard to guess!

Nice soft leather! Interesting what Suzanne @suzanne234 says. We would say the same!

@suzanne234 Let me see if I can explain this: purse is another name for bag here, handbag too. I never thought about how interchangeable all those names were. A shoulder bag has long straps and is designed just to carry on your shoulder. Handbags have shorter straps, you carry them on your forearm. Then we have wristlets, small zipper wallets that just hang from your wrist. Wallets hold money, credit cards, etc., they go inside purses. Then there’s totes, large purses/bags that are large enough to hold things like a laptop, they are not as bulky as laptop briefcases or backpacks. I hope I’ve made sense on this comment. It’s so funny that I never realized until right now how many different names our purses have!

@louannwarren Ahh, it's so complicated, and as you say Lou Ann there are many different styles but collectively I would say in the UK they would be described as a handbag. We also have clutch bags (no strap at all) and bum bags, which I believe you call fanny bags, but we'll not go into the meaning of that used over here!! A wallet would be what a man would use for money, but I guess all the names we've mentioned could be used for what you chuck your stuff in! Thanks for the detailed explanation :)

I most certainly would never have guessed that. Think I saw the store you were talking about when I stopped in Jackson Hole.

I had a look but had know idea what it could be, I bet you can get every thing a lady requires in it possibly even your kitchen sink Lou Ann, lol

@suzanne234 A purse or handbag use to be called a pocketbook in the 50's. My aunts who lived in Kansas called them that. However my friend in the midwest still calls it that so it might be a regional reference. I use backpack style all the time to be hands free. :)
