StratoCumulus, right? by louannwarren

StratoCumulus, right?

I honestly am not positive they are StratoCumulus, hoping someone here can correct me! When I was growing up we called them washboard clouds. Jerry said sailors call them Mackerel Skies, a sign to sailors that fair weather is on the way.
Great shot Lou Ann, could you tag it darkroom-cloud?

Could be cirrus clouds, but not sure. They look like feathers. Lovely capture.

Your absolutaly correct they are Stratocumulus Undulatus when formed in waves or rows well spotted and captured Lou Ann:)

@jacqbb I just tagged it. Thank you. @pcoulson I knew you would know the correct name. They were fun to watch as they dispersed too. @carole_sandford thank you, Carole.

I love a good mackerel sky but I think a proper one is more broken up than this....more speckledy! These are very unusual cloud formations!

What a unique (to me) sky! I've heard of both those names, but must not have seen any around here that struck me to take notice...

@summerfield Henri did love clouds. We both grew up in West Texas, and studied clouds every day. It was just our way of life. The cotton farmers depended on the weather, especially the rain, and we all wanted the cotton crops to be good every year. I miss her too, so much.
