Prickly pear cactus without the “prickles”

At a large recreation area in my community there were several large prickly pear cactuses growing that had no thorns. It was quite amazing really, the only thing we could think of was that it’s a family friendly place and to protect any children that might fall into the cactus, they planted this thornless hybrid.
That is quite intriguing. I will catch up on your project over the weekend.

Interesting, never seen a prickly pear without the prickles before. They are classed as an invasive plant here in Australia.

@happysnaps @pusspup @milaniet @lynnz @olivetreeann @kwind @pcoulson @onewing @carolmw @koalagardens @jacqbb @ludwigsdiana @grammyn @gijsje @mittens @linnypinny @beryl @momamo @danette @rontu @nicolecampbell thank you all so much for your great comments and fave. At first we thought the thorns had been burned off the pads to make them safe, but when we really studied them we saw there simply were not any thorns.so incredible really. Ranchers use blow torches to burn off the thorns during droughts so their cattle can eat the pads, they hold a lot of the plant’s water.
