In the 60’s and 70’s ladies wore hostess gowns when they entertained guests in their homes. These were from Neiman Marcus’ fashion archives, the ladies I had lunch with all remembered wearing hostess gowns. Of course not these designer pieces, smile. Quite a trip down memory lane.
Wonderful collage of these colourful pieces. Although I do not know the name hostess gown, I used to wear something similar when entertaining and having special dinner parties 😊
Being a young mother in the 60s in the 70s I did not do a whole lot of entertaining and certainly would never have worn a hostess gown because it would have been covered in cereal and spit up! These are beautiful and so colorful!
Yes I remember the word Hostess gown, I never knew anyone who wore one, certainly not in the farming world! Are they back in fashion under another name? I see the name Isobel Marant there so pricey ones too!
@ingrid01@k9photo@ludwigsdiana@grammyn@gijsje@bkbinthecity@mittens@joansmor@carolmw@happypat@carole_sandford well for a while as a young wife and mother I would take my son to a babysitter and get all the appetizers ready and put on a long, usually polyester knit flowing dress. My husband would wear nice slacks and shirts. It was a fun time in my life and now that I think about it, it was during those decades. Then everything became so casual, if we had a cocktail party, everyone just wore capris and cute tops snd the guys wore jeans. Neiman’s fashions are so expensive, I didn’t wear their clothes and didn’t really know anyone who did. It was an idyllic time in America, I miss it!
@happypat these are from Neiman’s archives, so quite old and quite expensive. I wish I had written down the names of the designers, they were all famous during those years. Alas, I don’t think we will ever see this type of elegant attire again.
Each grown beautifully captured in wonderful colour and detail Lou Ann, we were never that posh just had house parties with lots of alcohol so no need to dress up, lol:)
oh, yes. i do remember those. although when i used to host dinner parties back in the day, i would only wear a suit. the ones who wore these were the non-working wives of the expatriates who aren't local. i was local so i dressed differently. when i was young no one could make me wear bright colours except red.
