Girl Scout cookies

Meet Girl Scout Ella and her mother, they had just the best spot to sell cookies Saturday, at my grocery. It was cold and misty outside, I was so glad they could be in the store’s entrance lobby. Girl Scouts have sold cookies since 1917 when one troop in Oklahoma made cookies and sold them as a fundraiser. Then in 1922 the Girl Scouts published a sugar cookie recipe in their handbook. From there the cookie tradition really took off. I sold boxes of cookies for 50 cents in the early 50’s when I was first a Brownie, then a Girl Scout. I paid $5 for each box I purchased Saturday. 😊
Fabulous portrait of these Hard-working people. It’s so hard to believe they are five dollars a box!

So happy selling their goods!

Lots of variety. In NZ there was only one choice for many years, then a chocolate based one… but I believe they haven’t been selling any for the past few years.

Such a great shot of them, hope they sold it all.

They look delicious. 50 cents in 1950 is equivalent to about $6.50 in today's money so you got a bargain at $5 a box.

@grammyn @Dawn @ziggy77 @mittens @beryl @dide @ludwigsdiana @onewing thank you so much for your great comments. In 1917 a Girl Scout troop in Oklahoma baked cookies and sold them for a fund raiser. Then in 1922 the Girl Scouts put a sugar cookie recipe in that year’s Girl Scout Handbook. Girl Scout cookies are all the rage here. I recently read about a hotel bar in Dallas that designed cocktails to complement many of the cookies. You buy the cocktail and it’s served with two cookies.
