Mushroom Soufflé by loweygrace

Mushroom Soufflé

Found under an oak tree while on our walk today. The mushrooms here are usually small with dome tops. This was a big flat top!
What an unusual mushroom. Nice capture and interesting shape and color.FAV

This could be the bun to the hamburger colored one I saw today. They'd make a great combination. Nice find.

This looks like a kettle-drum. What an unusual mushroom. I'm just going to tag @ethelperry in case she pops in, as she is a mushroom expert!

Ah ha, yes I keep an eye on the 365 site. This is a beautiful capture (am I surprised?). Thank you for the compliment of calling me an "expert". I am actually an enthusiast with a few books and a passion for walking in the bush photographing and attempting to identify fungi.
This is a bolete, a fungus which has pores or tubes instead of gills. I can't find it in any of my books - but they are written by people in southern parts of Australia. The closest I could find was a google photo very similar to this. It was called, Yellow Cracked Boletus (Boletus subtomentosus)

Congrats on your trending and popular page. I realised too late that my reply was to @888rachel as she tagged me in her comment on your picture. I assumed this was a Queensland fungus, but guess you could be in any part of the world.

Goodness that's really quite amazing. Can see where it gets its name, definitely looks like a soufflé
