Another vintage camera shot, but this time I enlisted some help to shoot a Graflex Speed Graphic 'in action'. This particular camera was made before 1955 and at the time cost more than 6 weeks of the average wage. It can take 1:1 macro and even tilt-shift shots. The downside is it weighs over 2.6 kg (nearly 6 lb) and I can hardly lift it! You can see some spectacular shots taken on one at http://camarasclassicas.blogspot.com/2011/05/11-graflex-speed-graphic.html
I used cross processing and deliberately pushed the exposure to capture a hard 'flash bulb' feel. I also added a line art layer to replace a little of the car details.
Pete is holding his vintage camera while Denisse sits in his vintage Mini Cooper S! Thanks for being such good sports guys! :D
@tabbycat thanks so much - goodness thats lovely! I have not tried anything like this before, and I was not sure if it would work out, so I really appreciate the positive feedback (and the fav too! x)
@nattybabe thanks for that Nat - I have observed the magic monkeys prefer shots in 'clear' colours so they 'blend' to create a combined image with maximum impact. Fine art shots or cute animals & children get extra points, and HDR that is really good gets a showing too. Shots also need to work as a thumbnail to get attention. In reality the page has to 'market' the project, so I am sure images are judged accordingly on all of these criteria. This shot was a personal indulgence - and when I manage to end up with a piece that looks how I imagined it from the start, I am happy. As Clare K says - I am my harshest critic for sure!
@ltodd .....I think we all are but thats a good thing I think!!! But at the end of the day the project is really for you and you are the one who has their name on it!!
Your photography is wonderful Lyn and I really enjoy your pics!
I'm interested to see your opinion on the magic monkeys and their preferences....I think they love nature shot myself and scenery. They obviously are not too cluky cause kids are not featured too much or maybe they are already parents and find the cutesy kids pics boring now....LOL!!!!
Anyway thanx for sharing!!!!
@nattybabe oops yes - scenery for sure ! oceans, or even better, oceans with birds at sunset....(not easy to shoot from 200km inland!) LOL !! Maybe we need to create the ultimate airbrushed PP collage to test out this theory...
