capital view

My get-pushed challenge this week was from from Peter de Graaff, who asked me to take a photo or photos that characterised the design of the planned city of Canberra - the capital city of Australia that was designed by Walter Burley Griffin, an American landscape architect.

Here is the National Library of Australia on the banks of Lake Burley Griffin, hiding all but the flag pole of New Parliament House. The magpie lark was keeping me company while I had my lunch.
I like how te bird features in this shot, breaking down the modernism of the view

Hi Lyn, I can't believe how apt this picture is as the one I need to post my challenge on....
I looked through your pictures last night, once I found we've been paired up for the next get-pushed, and I was really impressed by the variety of your images. I couldn't spot any type of photography that was lacking so I had to try and think of something else.
I'd just got back from a day at an antiques fair where I'd been admiring all the jewellery, crystal and copper and the beautiful sparkles and reflections that you get from them. My family and friends call me a magpie as I can't walk down the street without getting drawn to the jewellery shop windows or walking into people in old buildings as I'm too busy admiring the chandeliers. So I was going to set you the challenge of taking pictures that would appeal to my magpie tendencies and then lo and behold when I go to post this morning what do I see in your picture but a magpie. :) I'm not sure if a magpie lark has the same reputation as his British cousins for stealing shiny objects to line his nest but it looks like he was aware of your challenge before I'd even set it.
Good luck.

@missmercy (sorry for the tardy reply)..this is a great (and interesting) challenge! In Australia the concept of collecting is more closely connected to the satin bower bird who decorates it's nest with blue coloured objects such as blue clothes pegs, drinking straws and bottle tops. Let's see if I can find some shiny pretty things to photograph that you might want to collect...
