So location one was ...Madrid! I had a wonderful moring wandering through the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum ( http://www.museothyssen.org/en/thyssen/obras_maestras) often there were so many masters in a single room my head was spinning! To be literally a breath away from such works & be able to see the intensity and 3 dimensions of the brush work was such a joy!
I actually took a lot of shots of the paintings I really liked - to file as inspiration for photography.
The outstanding painting in the Madrid Realist exhibition was by Isabel Quintanilla - 4th on the left on this web page is an incredibly poor web photo capture of one of the most realistic and yet artistic interpretations of still life (the pomegranates on a plate) I have ever seen - the light and shadow play of the glass plate and the fruit seeds was beyond any words I can think of. http://notasdecultura.blogspot.com.es/2016/02/isabel-quintanilla-pintora-realista.html
For Mike Gifford, the Dali was interesting - http://www.museothyssen.org/en/thyssen/ficha_obra/352 - quite a bit smaller than I expected, and actually more interesting than many Dali paintings I have seen.
any way, after a long walk through the Madrid gardens, I see this monument https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buen_Retiro_Park
Locals take their sweetheart boating and ALL take a selfie with the monument. Not sure it would have been all that romantic as there were so many row boats, it was oar-to-oar in many places!
@stiggle Anja guessed where I was, but this afternoon I leave Madrid for ....somewhere else... :)
