This is the interior of the Trieste Cathedral in northern Italy, one of my favourite churches on this trip so far. It is built using parts of excavated Roman buildings, and as you can see is surprisingly small & simply adorned inside. Parts of the floor are Roman mosaic, and where possible areas seem to have been preserved and respected. Some areas (not seen here) have been repaired in an almost ultra-modern look which I actually liked, as throughout the building there is a sense of man-kind moving through time with a sense of purpose. The large circular Gothic window contains simple clear glass rather than stained glass decoration, but it bathed the interior with the soft warm glow from the late afternoon sun.
works nicely viewed on black too if you have time. :)
@jbd1962 thanks Jonathan :) it was very late in the afternoon and there were no electric lights on apart from on the paintings and I thought the amazing textures were fabulous.
Spectacular on black indeed. Awesome light and shadows highlighting the textures so beautifully. The perfect choice of composition makes it look like wonderful painting. Most excellent t, Lyn. FAV
