control your territory

The magpies are getting ready for the new season and so last years children must fly the coop so to speak. The juvenile is being given a tough time and will probably head off for new lands quite soon.

Amazing clarity and another fabulous image. If all the babies are leaving the nest does that mean they will be attacking too?

@grammyn no - only nesting males swoop to protect the nest. I think it takes another year or so for juveniles to start breeding.

Fabulous shot. The magpies who visit us are giving their four offspring a tough time too at the moment. I think they have had enough of being parents now, but the youngsters won't get the message to leave home.

@nicolecampbell :) thanx Nic

@mariapachon thankyou Maria - yes I deleted the background because this is taken through by kitchen doorway & the rest of the shot is not very nice so I decided to 'maximise' the image. Sorry I should have noted it in the caption, I don't mean to decieve! :)) I blended about 5 different images to create the new 'background'.

@granagringa oh yes - I see it does look a little 'stuffed' :)

@onewing I think I have only ever noticed one or two offspring from a nest, never four! That must be loud..

@ltodd Not so stuffed; I meant more that the background sets it off so well.And having read what you wrote above, I see why!
