2017 Partner Agency Award by lyndemc

2017 Partner Agency Award

This partially explains my absence from 365 for the past couple of weeks. I've been working with a food pantry for two years now, starting as a volunteer then being invited to join the Board, and now, as of April 1, am Food Committee Chairman. It's a small food pantry by comparison to most but on average we serve 200-230 families a month. Helping Hands has been in operation since 2012 so I missed out on its fledgling years but because of the devotion of its founders it has progressed to what the River Bend Food Bank calls a "visionary" pantry. We are open more days and allow clients more visits thus making a significant difference in the food insecurity of our county. I'm very proud to be a part of this organization, and so pleased that they were awarded this acknowledgement for their efforts. I happen to be attending the Partner Agency Conference when this award was presented so graciously accepted it on behalf of all who have worked hard to make the Helping Hands of Roseville a progressive food pantry. I couldn't post this picture tho as my mom who is now also on the board (and keeps an eye on my photo project here) couldn't know about it until after a board meeting when the award was presented to the whole group.

In my absence I've continued to take pictures, but not of things I could share here; Girl Scout troops donating cookies to the pantry, youth groups coming in to clean shelving in the pantry, 900 pounds of dried beans donated to the pantry (that was an exciting photo - ha!), 1000 pounds of bananas just today! I'm settled into my role as food chairman so am ready to get back to hunting for 365 pictures. Yeah!!
What a wonderful achievement and one I am sure you are all so proud of. A very worthy community initiative and I wish you all the success in the future. x

Thought you might be interested in this - http://www.ozharvest.org/. We donated our left over food from the Summit we held a couple of weeks ago. One of the people from Oz Harvest collected it from the Summit venue and then donated it to charities across Canberra.

Congrats on the award which is displayed with typical lyndemc artistic flair. Are the pantries a type of up market soup kitchen?

Congratulations on your outstanding effort and wonderful award. Food pantries are so important to thousands of people. To feed 200-230 families is quite an accomplishment each month. Sounds like you're going to be pretty busy now so at the end of some long day when you're frantic for a photo, go ahead and post the 900 pounds of dried beans. We'll all enjoy it. ;)

Hey, big congrats on your Chairmanship and for the well deserved award!! A worthy excuse for being absent (much better than mine.....yeah, busy). What a great cause to be donating your time and efforts too. Too bad Harry Chapin is no longer with us, or you might have received 30,000 pounds of bananas! Come Mr. tally man, tally me banana.....
