American Beaver

While this is not an artsy, pretty or even remotely creative picture, it's one I'm quite thrilled to have to post. I've never been this close to a beaver before, and as luck would have it, this one seemed perfectly okay with my watching him eat his supper. I started out taking pictures from the car but then dared to slip out and move over to the edge of the bridge where I was able to take even more.

My thanks to this largest of rodents in North America for doing his nocturnal thing early enough for me to be able to photograph him.
I love it! He is so cute! I love that you got the end of his tail sticking out of the water - perfect!

Super shot - I've gotten one shot two years ago - was sitting in the front of the boat and he swam within 5 feet of it - slapped his tail when he got passed and scared the dickens out of me! Love how he's carrying his treasure with those paws. Really nice shot.

Great capture ... I have always found them to be quite elusive!

All I can think of is the line from Naked Gun: Nice Beaver! To which Priscilla Presley responds "Thanks. I just had it stuffed." And it truly is a cool photo.

Denise this is really a remarkable photo. I have never seen one, even though everything around where I live is named Beaver This and Beaver That. Nobody that I know has ever seen one either. Fabulous capture and a big fav :)

You're right. Not your typical arty, creative Lyndemc shot at all. More like something I would take if only we had beavers here. Nice shot Denise.

I too am always excited to get a picture of wildlife in their own environment! It's easy to take a picture of a flower! Great capture!

I don't blame you for being thrilled. Great capture. Would love to watch one myself.

Tis is such a great image. You can feel him swimming and love the rocks that add to the image. FAV

@tabarlett That tail was under water for the first few minutes of the photo taking but when I dared to inch closer to the edge of the bridge that tail suddenly appeared at the surface. I didn't want to inspire him to slap it and scare any others that might be around so I didn't advance any further but I was happy to have it now included in the pictures.

@milaniet I think the reason I was able to get so many pictures of this little fellow is because he was all engrossed in eating the leaves off those reeds. He cleaned the first stalk off and started on the second all while I watched him through the view finder. I know I would've jumped had he slapped the water with his tail!

@calm Their elusiveness is probably why this is the first time I've ever been close enough to photograph them. I was lucky in being there at the right time. I aim to return to the same spot at about the same time just to see if I might get lucky again.

@stray_shooter I'm glad I wasn't drinking my coffee when I read your comment. My computer screen would've needed a bath. Those movie lines are favorites of the guys here at my house.

@teiko Well then, I feel doubly thrilled to have managed this photo, knowing that you and lots of others have yet to see one of these rodents in your Beaver This and Beaver That area. (lol) I hope luck is on your side one of these days, just as it was for me. Thanks for the fav on the pic.

Could you have imagined yourself doing something like this before 365? This is such a beautifully composed shot, worth getting out of the car for I'd say. I love how you caught him chewing away on his dinner. That tail looks like it could back a punch for sure.

It reminds me of when I was trying to get a shot of a platypus. Love that we can see his big tail.
