My first attempt at star trails. I would have picked a different locations with mountains as the backdrop but our leader wanted some reflection from water and it just so happened this location was right on the highway. We only tried this one night so I'll have to find time again to try it at a different location. Problem is that we have to drive at least a couple hours out of town to find some dark skies.
@mikegifford Mike, I think you challenged a while back to shoot star trails and the best I could do at the time was to get a very faint shot of the big dipper. Well, here's my first star trails shot.
@andy_holding Andy, thanks, and I know what you mean about driving a distance to get these shots. We were in Fort Davis, TX, where the McDonald Observatory is so knew it was our chance for star trails. I just would have chosen a different location but someone else chose this one so it is what it is.
@rosiekerr Rosie, you just set your camera to take 30second shots and take about 200 shots. There is free software you can download that then stacks the shots on top of each other and voila! you have star trails.
