It was 65 degrees today when I took this, but the forecast says 27 degrees tonight! I wonder if this squirrel can sense that. She was busy burying nuts today. I hope her nest survives the 40 mph wind tonight. I've been watching her carry mouthfulls of leaves to it. I can already hear the wind howling.
Wonderful capture Lynn.Is this the same squirrel that you photographed early this year ? Do they have a territory and stick with it or do they migrate ?
@peterlgrave Peter, I don't know if this is the same squirrel. I can't tell them apart. We had several around last winter because I was feeding them, but I've only seen a couple this fall. We have two nests in our tree and the nests made it through the terrible wind last night.
I think I have heard a saying that upon viewing the squirrels gathering their cold weather stockpiles one can be sure that Winter is six-weeks or less behind. Such a delightful capture taken at just the right moment! :)
Fantastic capture, Lynn. Such a cute little face! I'm sure this critter will do just fine. They seem to weather the weather better than us humans do sometimes!
I often wonder too if the animals have a sense about the weather that us humans aren't blessed with (or don't realize we have). I hope her nest is staying intact through all this wind we're having here in the midwest. Wonderful photo of Ms. Squirrel.
