We have a little wildflower patch in our yard and we let the milkweed plants grow this year since Monsanto and their Roundup weed killer has practically wiped out milkweed plants in Iowa. The monarch butterflies are so scarce that there are now campaigns to grow milkweeds and save the monarchs.
I also have a patch of milkweed in one area in my garden, of course I am growing it in order to help the environment ( now I just need an excuse for why I also have a big patch of Canada thistle which, as far as I know, doesn't really) help anything! One thing that surprised me is how fragrant the milk weed is, I'd never noticed that before.
I hope the campaign for the monarchs work and lots and lots of milkweed is planted!! I don't think we even have them here, if so, never seen one in 37 years. I sure do miss them!! Love this photo and the pastel colors and the sweet bumblebee!! Great details and lighting!! FAV!
Beautiful macro, such lovely colour and focus, fav. People are trying to grow more milkweed here, too. I think the number of monarchs I'm seeing is increasing a bit, but is still nothing like what I used to see when I was growing up in the Niagara Peninsula.
