The Roebling Suspension Bridge

Downtown Cincinnati on a Reds game night - when the Roebling Bridge - precursor to the Brooklyn Bridge - between Covington, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio opened on January 1, 1867, its central span of 1057 feet was the longest in the world. John A. Roebling had spent most of the previous two years in New York and New Jersey preparing his next proposed project – a bridge over the East River connecting New York City and Brooklyn.
