Sunset over Ballycorus by m2016

Sunset over Ballycorus

Great sunset this evening so I stood on the motorway overpass for a while and got some pics. The tall structure to the left of the image is the Ballycorus Leadmines Chimney, known locally as the Smelting Tower. The lead mines here operated from 1807 until 1913, and although the chimney was supposed to vent the lead fumes safely, increased health issues and high mortality rates among locals and mine workers gave the area the nickname of 'Death Valley'.

I'd like to get closer for a few good pics of this soon, we used to hike up there as kids but I never knew its history until recently.
A stark reminder of those difficult times. Beautful clear sunrise.
