It was really tricky to capture the actual colour of this flower, this was the only one of dozens that I tried where it came out anything like the real shade of red...

Experiment with the editor to get you back to "real" colors. The camera is a very inflexible instrument, whereas the human eye is immeasurably flexible. you often have to coax the camera image to produce what the eye has blocked out/enhanced.
