These little guys spend most of the day chasing each other. Now they chase the bees. They're fun to watch. I'm not sure how long they stay in the season, but I've enjoyed them this summer.
Thanks everyone for your very kind words. I do appreciate them.
awww. how cute Maggie, she's alittle fluff ball. I usually put the feeders up when it starts getting pretty chilly at night, before it freezes at night for sure, probably early October here and then the migrate, if you dont do that and keep the feeders out they wont leave and usually don't make it....
I have really enjoyed them this year, this is the first year I've really tended to them and feed them all spring and summer, it will be a yearly festival from now on....
I noticed the notes about leaving the feeders up or taking them down. You might want to have a look the hummingbird site that follows. It seems they are driven by forces more powerful than hunger so you should leave them up until the birds are gone. http://www.hummingbirds.net/feeders.html
@specky Sheila, I have had a great summer with the hummers. I think there are two families with about 6 birds total. They sit and pose and a few I have been lucky enough to get in motion.
Another really great one! These small wildlife shots with beautiful DOF are becoming your signature shot methinks...
Yesterday, I watched ducks in the pond catching mosquitoes...I had no idea..!
