One of the events for our 150th celebrations week was a bike ride along the coast to a river mouth where we had a picnic. Old boat houses lined the river and sheltered us. A local identidy put out a mullet net and caught us some mullet. He then built a fire on the river stones and cooked it, served it up to us with fresh bread that one of our lot had cooked this morning! Delicious! She had also made this morning, a sea-water cheese made from raw milk and sea water with a few herbs thrown in! It was creamy and delectable! Other delights were elderflower cordial with soda water and freshly cut lime, tiny cup cakes with a heap of spices in them, and Kamahi Honey -
Native to the ancient and unspoilt mountain forests of the South Island’s West Coast, the Kamahi blooms produce a light, golden honey with a beautifully rich flavour.
If you look at this enlarged, you will see a wee doggy in Donna's basket!
Oh, how very fun. I am not much of a bike rider, but this doesn't look like a road with a lot of traffic, so I could probably ride there. And to see dolphins--DEFINITELY. Love the little doggy ; ) Thanks for sharing this beautiful shot, Maggiemae.
Oh my goodness how very gorgeous! I love the stunning background and yes, you can see the doggie in the basket!! :) Tooo cute! Love it! And fun story as well!
What a great way to spend the day....out riding in a beautiful scenic area and with great food and company...life is good!! Great shot and the little dog looks happy to go along for the ride :-)
The picnic sounds fabulous. Just reading about it made my mouth water. Perfect timing on this shot and the background scenery looks marvellous. Thankyou for your recent comment on my Bridgwater shot. So interesting to hear about your Mum's travels. We live very close to Glastonbury. If you go onto Googlemaps you should be able to find the village where I live (Westonzoyland) :o) xx
@psychographer I found this place - what an odd name for an English town! My Mum remarried later in life and settled in Crewkerne for 15 years - not far from you!
Wife and I talk about it all the time. i think it was one of the best holiday we ever had
