The cornish pasty was taken down the tin mines in Cornwall for the worker's lunch if I remember correctly! I saw these in the local bakery and as they were rather expensive, decided to make them myself. Prepared with swede, potato, onion, they were positively delicious!
Three good things;
1. Decided to make the homemade tomato sauce to go with these pasties.
2. Huge frost this morning gave a good photo op.
3. Uke practice for an upcoming concert went well particularly with the song, "Anarchy"
A Cornish Pastie....looks good with a nice crisp pastry! You did a fantastic job of yours & would be much more nutritious! They used to fill one end with savoury & the other end sweet for pudding apparently!
Frosty morning picture coming up?
Maggiemae, this is a great cookbook worthy food shot! It stands out beautifully on the plain white plate and the black background. I had never heard of this dish before and had to google it. I found a recipe and wondered if you prepared it the same. Yours looks so much yummier than the one pictured on this site: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/cornish-pasty/
@cimes1 The traditional pasty seems to be wrapped as mine is with the opening along the top and wiggled. Your recipe from this site doesn't look as nice, I agree.
That looks positively yummy!! Love the way you have presented the meal. Definitely cookbook-worthy! I always thought it was "pasty" so look forward to seeing what Pat ( @happypat ) says. Interesting about the savoury and sweet as well.
@maggiemae@kwiksilver Pasty ...I am wrong & you are both right.....just spelt it like it came into my head but with a Cornish pasty it is quite specific spelling I think!
A super Cornish Pasty , nicely captured and the presentation worthy of any cookbook illustration !! As a welsh girl with English as a second language ,without sounding pig-headed !! one is Pasty ,more than one is Pasties Whatever you may call it -- well done you Maggie !!!!Fav especially for the presentation !
I love Cornish pasties and when I go to Cornwall I make sure I get some made in the original way - very much like yours Maggiemae. I am going down to Cornwall again in September - lovely!! Great shot by the way!!
Looks delicious! We have something similar here in Michigan. They're called pasties also, and originated with the miners going down the iron ore/copper mines, I believe. Quite popular, especially with the tourists. :)
Gee you had me worried there for a minute. I was wracking my brain trying to remember when the Tin man in the Wizard of Oz ate something!
Beautiful food shot! I love how you placed the food on the plate!
My husband would be in heaven if I cooked him something like this, he does love pastry. You have done a fantastic job in making and photographing Maggie, looks mouthwatering!
My friend Judy buys a not-appealing-at-all premade version of this. I am not a good pastry maker, but if I was I'd be asking for the recipe! Looks wonderful!
