This composition was based on a picture I saw on the wall here - a lovely one in the snow of an old cottage with sweeping lines of sepia and white. Its a beautiful and historic place with serious quality about it. Our accommodation was in another ivy-clad block across from this.
The first night was a difficult one with people slamming doors for a while. Someone coming upstairs in the dead of night and knocking loudly at a door. Then some woman started howling - an eerie sound that went on and on. Like a banshee! Finally calmed down after a bit of talking. Then a lot of loud talking down the hall and doors banging. I finally poked my head out, asked the lady I could see hanging out her door if she could be quieter. She waved at me and pointed down the hallway. Down there were other people all looking at one couple in a doorway arguing. He looked as if he couldn't stand on his feet properly and she had him by the elbows trying to do something! After some time it went quiet. In the morning, I found out that the doorway these two were arguing in was the linen room! All this was fitted in with several bathroom visits due to an upset stomach. The door to our bathroom was frightfully creaky and woke up the other when used. So......... very tired. The receptionist told us that we should have called security even though it was 4am!
Three good things:
1. They replaced the duvet with a lighter one as we just about burnt up in the other one!
2. Waited for a bus for over an hour but it finally came past after the driver had stopped for lunch just down the road!
3. The language of the gaelic is soft and harmonious - a lady on the bus behind us talked non stop on her telephone for 40 minutes.
Oh dear maggiemae not a good introduction to Ireland........that all sounds atrocious behaviour! All round the world & you are stymied on the last gasp!!
This is a fantastic edit....love the way you have given the hotel a really ghostly sort of look.....they don't deserve this attention !!
A beautiful image and composition ! But what a night you must have had -- sounds like you were staying in the house of horrors !!Amazing how nothing was done by the establishment at the time !! I hope you will have a better night and some sleep to refresh you tonight !
@judithg Hey I'm in Ireland and have just concocted the most divine cocktail based on Coconut - the cocktail man from Rumania is really very good! Forget security!
Great processing of the shot! I guess you got a taste of what they call an Irish temper. So sorry that night was so crazy. I hope it gets better as the visit goes on.
That's the hotel I got married in :) Sorry to hear you had a bad night though, not the usual for that hotel, it's got a very good name. It's a lovely hotel too, very old world. Love how you processed this shot
