I purchased this sweet little salt and pepper set in a country market in France for only $1! Couldn't resist it with those bicycles. On one side of the area, someone was making buckets of bouillabaisse and further down a large pig was being rotated on a spit. Across the way, cheeses were being displayed and for tasting, organic vegetables arranged beautifully, someone was making chips in duck fat, large glasses of orange juice were waiting to be drunk and pieces of bread were on a plate for tasting with about 15 different jams and jellies! All down the long road there were tables where people were selling trinkets, clothes and knickknacks. I wish I'd taken more photos!
Three good things:
1. The set handles salt and pepper beautifully, not like some sets I have where no matter how you pound on the end, only a few grains come out!
2. John is getting over his man flu! Thank goodness!
3. The power went off in the night and all the clocks are flashing except for one beside my bed which seems to have an emergency battery in it! I knew when to wake up!
These are a bi bargain & worth even more because of those wonderful memories to go with them...France sounds like my sort of place...they love & respect their food very much. A perfect afternoon wandering around that market...you were lucky to resist spending more!
@happypat They will be a talking point, Pat! Its a very different way of life over there - can't be there so just love reading about it - I've been reading Karen Wheeler's "Toute" books - autobiographies but she puts the nature of rural France in a fascinating and absorbing way! Reluctant to finish them - on "Kindle"
