Fountain no longer

Marble is supposed to last forever…
This handsome Italian marble (Carrara) fountain is on the lawn near the main entrance of the Oamaru Public Gardens It was erected in 1915 and used to have a continual water display for years. Unfortunately it developed a leak and it so far as proved too expensive to fix.

Three good things:
The mattress arrived and the freighting couriers told 1. John off for trying to help bring it in ( it was a female). In three layers - firm, medium and soft. I can’t wait to climb on to it and dissolve into dreams!
2. NZ Cricket v South Africa controlled the workplace today - so many bosses let their employees go. Schools let their students off at midday! What is happening? OK till it rained! But NZ won right at the last two balls!
3. Ruby turned over 500k today -Ruby is my electric bicycle! (I just go along for the ride!).
It will be like sleeping on a cloud.

So sad to see a fountain without water. Ruby is going well and the mattress sounds divine

Too bad the fountain is not running. We have a lot of fountains in Kansas City, MO, but last fall when they shut them down most of them went under renovation so in April when the annual fountain day is they should all be up and running. I love taking pictures of them. I hope they can get the funds together for this one and get it back up and running.

I like the processing here. It's quite elegant, prob looked even more impressive with the fountain working.

Pity the fountain is neglected. Must have been magnificent in its day.

Great shot of a nice looking fountain. Amazing that it is 100 years old.

It does make a lovely shot though. I like your processing and that red roof.

Awesome Shot

Love the selective color and the fountain is a gem!! Too bad it cost so much to bring it back to its grandeur!

Love the red roof in the background. Sad to see a lovely fountain like that neglected.

That's too bad. Fountains can be lovely center pieces, no matter where they are.

That is unfortunate as I am sure it must be very nice when it is operating

What a shame it must be beautiful when it's working

Nice composition, too bad it doesn't get fixed

I like the little touch of SC in here. Great composition.

Such a shame things aren't restored nowadays.

@sharrystar Thanks Sharon! The Waitaki District has had to update a lot of their Victorian buildings to earthquake standard now and that has taken and will need a huge funding!

Fabulous fountain!
We were devastated by the result - but of course you had a South African to help you with that last 6 ;) (only half joking* lol!) But what a game it was! Well done NZ! Now you simply MUST win!

Perfect composition!!

Beautiful fountain. Too bad it has no flowing water. Sounds like you are enjoying your new mattress. Sure is nice to be comfortable to sleep. Wow, you have really been using Ruby a lot. Nice to have a ride that you do not have to go much of anything. By the way, love your selective coloring in this photo. FAV

Shame about the lack of water - a classic situation of a rolls-royce fountain on a morris minor budget. Carrera marble - I am impressed. Also impressed by your selective spot of colour.

I like the processing on this. What makes it for me is the red roof in the back ground.
