The Lakes in North Otago... by maggiemae

The Lakes in North Otago...

…..are really so beautiful, hardly any holiday houses, a few camping grounds but the Lakes are all man made to provide power to the whole of NZ. Only three dams but a huge heap lot of energy they create! We are near the major earth dam of Benmore but can’t see it from here. However, the huge and bare hills are all around.
Our hotel room was like a cell so we exchanged it for something better to look out on. This golf course was right there! But in the bathroom there was a tap with a red knob on the top - the hot, right? The other tap had the words, HOT” on it so….? We worked it out.

Three good things:
1. Doing without the internet in your room is OK once you have got used to it. But free wifi is available in the lounge but not reliable. Never mind!
2. Its good to get away from the phone.
3. My tripod was necessary with some early evening shots of the mountains and clouds around.
Fun story about your hotel room. Beautiful view to look out at though. Love green everywhere. One of my favorite colours.

@barb_b Yes, Barb - do you know the area?
April 5th, 2015

April 5th, 2015
Beautiful scenery, so green

Loving all this glorious color!!
April 5th, 2015
@maggiemae Yes, we spent many, many years camping at Twizel with good friends when all our kids were growing up. They had family there. And when I was growing up I spent a bit of time in Otematata while my brother and his wife taught in the school there. The McKenzie Country is pretty special!

Great POV, love the little bit of blue sky peaking out behind the mountains.

Beautiful landscape with so many aspects to gaze upon. Thos hills just roll on forever and the lighting is great.

@kiwinanna Thanks Liana! During the day, they look just high and bare but in the late afternoon the ridges all become outlined.

I hope it was a good foursome!

Pretty golf course and green hills!

@genesis_one You deleted your first comment, Corrie - but I do agree - everything comes in threes!

Looks like a beautiful place for a round of golf.
April 5th, 2015
@nickspicsnz I think a lot of people came up to this place to play golf! Others had big fizz boats that they launched in beautiful natural harbours and had the life of Riley!

Looks fabulous with that light. We'll be heading up that way next weekend on the way north from Oamaru, taking the scenic route.

April 5th, 2015

April 5th, 2015
Love all the greens. And great composition with the position of the golf bags. Very interesting info about the man-made lakes and energy. Thanks for sharing.
April 5th, 2015
@maggiemae I thought there were 3 golf carts but then realised there were 4
April 5th, 2015

April 6th, 2015
The beauty of Otago is always breath taking.
April 6th, 2015
this is beautiful Maggiemae
April 6th, 2015
Great scenery- especially if you're a golfer!
April 6th, 2015
The golf carts look so small against the mountains in the background and the grass is so luscious. I'm not a golfer, but I would appreciate a golf course like this pretty one. fav.
April 6th, 2015
The grandeur of this rather dwarfs the importance of the golf. Beautiful capture, fav.
April 6th, 2015
Stunning capture
April 7th, 2015
wonderful composition, maggiemae. the golfer in front of the bush was quite a surprise.
April 7th, 2015
@summerfield He's not easy to find - was in the shadow and I couldn't process him out of the shadow! I do like manipulating men!
April 7th, 2015
@maggiemae - clone him out in picmonkey. that's what i used to do with my men when i don't want them anymore. :-)
April 7th, 2015
@summerfield I thought 'cloning' was duplicating? Do I really want two swinging a club at the same time - they might hit each other!
April 7th, 2015
@maggiemae - yes, you duplicate the dark area of the bush over the golfer. poof! he's gone! :-D
April 7th, 2015
@summerfield Ah, never thought of that!
April 7th, 2015
Beautiful greens
April 8th, 2015
That is a gorgeous place with such lush greens, and so majestic! I have heard that NZ is absolutely beautiful, especially if you love the outdoors, and this looks like a place to visit.
@summerfield I did not know that you could clone things out in Picmonkey. I usually do that in Photoshop....is that a Royale feature? @maggiemae the golfer does not bother me at all....he just sort of blends in, but it would be nice to know that you could get something out in Picmonkey easily!
April 12th, 2015
@panthora I didn't know about picmonkey clone function either but I did have a app called snapheal that sometimes worked! However I wanted to bring this golfer out in the light more but couldn't!
