The Russian Connection

Matryoshka doll

Also known as Russian nesting dolls. There should be a set iof decreasing size so they fit into each other.
This is a tea towel given to me a year or so ago by a Russian cousin who came out for a brief visit. I think its too good to use for drying dishes so am using it for a coffee tablecloth.
The two real dolls on it were given to me by my Mother when she went to visit her sister in Moscow about 40 years ago. There were 4 I think but only two made it to this year. - - - No, I have just had a thought and this wee one actually had a smaller one inside! So I’ve only lost Big Mama! Now I’ve sat here and looked at this tiniest one and wondered! And yes, there is a minute one inside!

Three good things:
1. So pleased I found baby Babushkas!
2. Used up a lot of leftovers in the fridge and haven’t died yet. One was over 10 days old!
3. Nice to get into slippers again! They are so comfy but I tend to wear them outside and they don’t last long!
Aw, these are sweet. I used to love playing with them. Glad you found the baby!:)

I love those dolls. I always wanted a set yet never got one. I like to get my slippers on and keep forgetting I have them on when I rush out into the garden after Finlay!! They are often in the washing machine!!

Love the hand towel, I too would not use it for drying. I have a set of Nesting Dolls from Lithuania. Friend of my husband's brought them to me years ago when I was very sick. He had gone back to Lithuania to sell his home and brought them back for me hoping they would make me feel better. And they did.

@flygirl Your story is as nice as mine - mine came from my Mother when she was in Russia and yours from a similar country but enchanting to you when you were sick!

Yes indeed. I was so very touched that he thought of me on his trip and that he though enough of me to bring the dolls. I have them on a shelf where I can see them everyday.
