Anzac day brings the world together by maggiemae

Anzac day brings the world together

This day is when the terrible events of 1915 are brought to the world’s memory of the war - searing heat, severe cold experienced in trenches and facing gun and machine gun fire. I don’t even want to think of the horses used in this atrocious war.
In Gallipoli the fighting field was named, the ‘daisy field’ and in amongst the daisies, the poppies were there too and now remembered forever!
My poppies came from our garden and the clone' tool helped with the picture.

I have another photo that came from my father’s photograph album that I now own and was taken during this time. I will post this tomorrow as a premiere to Anzac day.

Three good things:
1. Got my father's war medal out and tested the ribbon - a bit fragile.
2. Still look forward to the postman's visit in spite of knowing it won't be interesting.
3. Warm sheets big enough for our huge bed are on the way.
Flannelette sheets are a must in cold weather.......this is a super tribute to your 100 year celebrations of that terrible war.

Great tribute. I'm guessing that Anzac Day is like our Memorial Day, which is the last Monday in May.

A lovely tribute... the tremendous losses and brutality of that combat are haunting. Your processing of this offering is really effective, especially of the poppies, which appear to be fading into history. I do enjoy your "three good things." :)

Thank you for bringing AnzacDay to our attention.
April 23rd, 2015
@bluerose15 World War One was, of course fought by many countries but the fatalities of Gallipoli showed the futility of war!

It's wonderful to see so many tributes on 365 to ANZAC day. Such a tragedy of young lives. The colours in your picture are lovely.
April 23rd, 2015
@kiwichick I haven't seen many Anzac pictures - must look at the tags and find some! Thanks Lesley!
April 23rd, 2015
@maggiemae Lol, no other photos under the tag. Helen had posted a few http://365project.org/helenw2/365/2015-04-22

@kiwichick That page didn't work - however I'll look at her site!
April 23rd, 2015
The thought of the war horses breaks my heart as well. Bad enough what people do to each other. This however is a very moving tribute.
April 23rd, 2015
@kiwichick Ah, got her photo now, thanks Lesley!
April 23rd, 2015
@pandorasecho I heard that thousands of horses were transported from here in that war and NONE came back!
April 23rd, 2015
A well-done tribute Maggie- and their sacrifice is appreciated here too.

@darsphotos When you read about what they put up with - 'were ordered" you can't help weeping for these young guys!

A lovely composite image for a special time.
April 24th, 2015
I know it was a terrible time for New Zealand and Australia, and this is a beautiful commemoration. I like knowing that it was a Canadian, John McCrae, who wrote "In Flanders Fields" , which helped make the poppy the universal symbol it is today. And I agree with you, I can't bear to think about the horses.

@maggiemae It is very sad, Maggiemae what so many put up with or were ordered to do. So faithful though to their country. I was a teen when a friends brother went to Vietnam. He came home and was ok but wanted to go back. He returned never to be the same again. What he saw and what he went through changed him forever. It was so sad. I will always remember that.
April 25th, 2015
@darsphotos It is sad to say but those who died do not suffer any more!
April 25th, 2015
@tristansmum The film War Horse is on tonight on TV and I am not going to watch it - I'm just about in tears thinking about it actually!
April 25th, 2015
@maggiemae It is true but their families do. My Uncles brother was killed on the USS Arizona when it sunk in Pearl Harbor. His Mom never got over his loss nor did he. In the respect that those who serve and survive and suffer mentally and or physically is horrible. I wish we could live without war in our lives.
April 25th, 2015
This is lovely - fav :)
