Country Castle by maggiemae

Country Castle

About 15km north of Oamaru there is a popular and award winning restaurant. The lady who runs the whole establishment - gift shops, peacocks, exotic birds, huge vegetable garden - fruit trees, and a fort for the children, has a reputation for being hardworking but quirky! She is building this castle for her home complete with drawbridge and moat! It is currently being clad in Oamaru stone.

Three good things:
1. A delicious lunch at the restaurant with hand cut chips and aoli.
2. Creating an elaborate charade for our daughter and husband to take them to Tekapo where they want to go but not telling them.
3. A good supply of hot water - outside hot water cylinder run by a heat pump.
A fantastic shot and super processing.

There is a saying that an Englishman's home is his castle but it obviously applies to Kiwis as well. Love the shot especially the reflections

Well I hope your daughter doesn't look at 365 or the cats out of the bag! Tekapo how lovely, I will always remember the colour of the water there! This is an amazing place......the lady must earn some money to be able to afford to build that!

What an interesting place! How fantastic that she is building a castle with a drawbridge! I like the sound of you secretly getting your daughter and husband to Tekapo! What a great surprise for them! The name sounds familiar - I think I may have visited on my NZ tour. I will have to check. Fav for your stunning shot with that fabulous sky and reflections!

@grammyn You are right, Katy - well remembered! Not much forward from then but they are putting the oamaru stone exterior on now!
June 9th, 2015
@olivetreeann Your memory is very good, Ann! I think it must be the only modern castle in NZ!
June 9th, 2015
@happypat We managed to get away with it for a while then admitted we were the shuttle. They both said, 'very well done" John is very good at pretending!

Great processing and reflections. It sounds like a really interesting place. Did you post something about it a long time ago? The part about the exotic animals, and the drawbridge and moat sounds familiar.
