Maggie Magpie

Maggie the Magpie
A lone magpie arrived on one of our high trees and I was able to get in a quick shot before she took off! In the country these birds can be quite nasty and attack people walking or biking along a road. My own experiences meant me taking a big stick when riding my bike and wave it above my head as I rode!

Three good things;
1. An AF episode with John was a worry but he came right after a morning in bed.
2. A brief interlude with William Shakespeare with a sonnet from the past.
3. Drinking cold water straight from the fridge.
A great capture.

Love the processing! Yes they are very smart and tricky, attacked my child few times at the park when he's toddler years ago:)

This is really cool! I like the contrast in colours!

What a terrific shot. I love the silver effect of the branches and shadows behind. What a scary experience with the magpies all but attacking you! They are pretty nasty to other birds here too but I don't think they attack people.

@busylady They zoom down from a height and peck your head from behind, Judith! Bikers have to wear a helmet but walkers can get hurt!

Great capture

Wow- I didn't know they were such nasty birds! All I know of them is from the Disney version of Dumbo and in that movie, they're funny and friendly-sort of! Cool processing!

I love how you have processedthis shot with the strong light and the background shadows. Reminds me of my favourite NZ poem:
'And Quardle oodle ardle wardle doodle
The magpies said. '

This is a terrific capture and processing, Maggiemae !

I had to laugh at the visual of you riding your bike while twirling a stick over your head!

@snaphappi Only a NZer would recognise that poem - no, I think the Aussies have them too!
July 15th, 2015
Wonderful and dramatic.

What can I say, a relative of me in fact it's Auntie Magpie. Lovely capture and processing so has to be a FAV. Thanks for following me, I have reciprocated and hope I can put a smile in your day now and then. Glad you noticed that SIN BIN was easier to say (Wink)

@ladymagpie Great to hear from you - I can see that you have photos that will give pleasure!

Great capture and processing fav

Glad John was OK. I didn't know magpies here attacked people so I'll have to keep a watch out when I'm walking Tilly.
July 15th, 2015
@nickspicsnz I think its only in the South Island as we had lots of magpies in our trees in Auckland when we lived there. But in the Sth, its more open and deep valleys. They sit in these high trees and dive-bomb you from the rear - dumb enough thinking that you are a threat to their nests! Perhaps the SI magpies are just stupid!

Splendid capture and processing. Fav.

Love the way you have made the maggie the star

Very nice, fav

Interesting capture, I like the colour/mono combination.
I don't recollect ever hearing of magpies being aggressive to humans over here, it's the seagulls at the coast that can get nasty.
July 15th, 2015
Super shot.
July 15th, 2015
Terrific processing. Our magpies fly of if people come near but yours sound vicious. Lovely mental image of you riding a bike and sipping your head!
July 15th, 2015
Fabulous processing. I had to laugh at the thought of you on your bike waving a large stick!
July 15th, 2015
@kwiksilver It got quite hairy at times with many a wobble! Good thing there is not much traffic along that road!
July 15th, 2015
Seriously?! These birds attack you out of nowhere?! I hope they don't all gang up on you guys!! Love your processing in this one!
July 16th, 2015
@panthora No, its always only one at a time and they dive bomb you from behind so its difficult to keep and eye on them!
July 16th, 2015
I like the look of this, really shows up the bird. Unusual combination.
July 16th, 2015
Very Nice processing, I'm wondering why these birds are so aggressive?
July 16th, 2015
Great capture and processing! Your magpies look a little different than ours.
July 17th, 2015
Oh I love your processing....I did not know they were so aggressive. Is this because they are nesting or mating?
July 17th, 2015
@eyesmile Yes it's really only when they are nesting. How they think you would steal their eggs when they are miles up a tree, I don't know! No spacial awareness!
