Meldrums by maggiemae

Meldrums

This tiny little building was once a bakery established in 1879 by Andrew Meldrum from Scotland, believe it or not - with that name!

MacDonalds restaurant wanted to use this entrance for a parking space behind their restaurant and came to an agreement with the Town’s Trust to maintain this building, as it was on the site. Good decision.

I used a ‘texture’ app from Picmonkey to finish this photo.

Three good things;
1. I was able to eliminate the parking on one side of this building and a power pole on the other! Gee, I’m so in control!
2. The building is made of Oamaru stone and will last for another century!
3. I had a big day show jumping bareback yesterday and have a slight headache - could be the champagne or could be my fall at the first fence!
Oh what a great looking place and love the added texture.

What a lovely little building. So pleased this little bit of history has been saved. It is very tiny for a bakery!

A wonderful little building and so pleased it is preserved on site Lovely authentic built in the local stone -- you have done a great job at the edit Maggiemae especially as you are suffering muscle pains after yesterday's day riding !! this does happen to people that take up a sport without gently practising before the event -- using muscles for the ist tine can be painful -- should have a hot bath in candle light and a flute of champaign while relaxing -- I am sure it will help !!

@beryl Now that does sound good, Beryl! I think i'll order a case of champagne and have a bath every night!

i was going to say that the textures were fab and then read your narrative to see that you had enhanced them to be so :)

Fantastic processing to include the elimination of poles and parking so well!. The texture works well and the image itself it terrific

Fabulous image and processing! So glad it was saved and you captured it so brilliantly! I'l have to use pic Monkey more often. Is this the program offered on 365 or do you have a more advanced version?
July 22nd, 2015
Love your processing and so glad McDonald's didn't take it down. Just love this photo!!
July 22nd, 2015
@eyesmile I purchased the advanced version, Gena and it costs me around NZ$7 a month. Its a fun app to experiment with.

Such a character filled building. I like your processing.

Love your processing and light on this image. Fav!

This has the appearance of a painting! Cool shot.

Lovely capture and your processing adds much to it. The textures add to the "textures" of this historical building. Good for you, on the editing! :) On the non-photo side, show jumping bare-back sounds like jumping from a plane with a parachute. I am in awe.

I like the look and edit! Fav!
July 22nd, 2015
@rosiekerr Well it has to be better than jumping out of a plane without a parachute? lol. You don't really believe I did this horsey thing?
July 22nd, 2015
This reminded me Grahame Sydney's painting.
July 22nd, 2015
Great editing. I can never eliminate unwanted things like power lines. Love the colour of the stonework
July 22nd, 2015
@yaorenliu You know you are right! Its not a building he painted but similar to others he did!
July 22nd, 2015
@kelly2 You have got it all on Picmonkey, Irene - its cloning! Not easy but challenging to one!
July 22nd, 2015
Wonderful building and history Maggie. great processing as well. Sorry about the headache but most likely it was the champagne:-)
July 22nd, 2015

What a great looking place. Love all the detail you captured and your processing too. So glad they left it as is. You are becoming more and more creative too. I hope your headache goes away soon. Not a great thing to take a fall. Glad you are ok. FAV

@darsphotos you do know I'm kidding about the horse riding, Darlene? I could only ride a horse if my life depended on it!

This is such an elegant looking image -- very much like a painting. Fav for the wonderful processing of this structure. Interesting background too.
July 23rd, 2015
AND, cracked up at your point #3 and comment to Darlene! I actually did do jumping but it's been decades and NEVER bareback!!
July 23rd, 2015
Love this, this is so wonderful in so many ways & that red door is brilliant!
July 23rd, 2015
Interesting building, nicely processed, Maggie
July 23rd, 2015
Glad to see MacDonald's kept to their Scottish pride and preserved this building. Nice job on the editing. Sorry to hear about the fall but at least you weren't trapped inside the moon or being sucked into a swirling eddy like some of the other finalists on WWYD!
July 23rd, 2015
interesting building, glad they saved it
July 23rd, 2015
Good to see this relic of social history is still standing proud. Is it fully preserved or just the facade? Not sure that your texture app doesn't hint of graffiti - glad to hear you got straight back bareback on - the only way to ride the hurdles is make sure you are squiffy first - it doesnt hurt then if or when you fall off.
July 23rd, 2015
@snaphappi The outside has really been smartened and strengthened quite considerably, Maggie - good for them! Don't know whats inside though. I'll remember your comment when I am next riding bareback in front of thousands of people!
July 23rd, 2015
Just love this little building, the light, and (especially) your processing, fav of course.
July 25th, 2015
Seriously cool processing, and a wonderful old building.....so much personality!! Glad to see it being put to a good use!
July 26th, 2015
Lovely old building - nice to know it's going to be kept standing. Nice processing.

Mr Meldrum must have been quite affluent having his name and business carved in stone.
