Marshmallow Delight by maggiemae

Marshmallow Delight

Playing a bit with ‘grain’ here - must have been too much of something or too little more likely - I had higher speed but not so much light.

Miss Owl is swooping down on the food which I put out - happens to be marshmallows soaked in honeyed water - the marshmallows were probably 5 years old! Perky Peter is keeping a look out, poor Bertie numskull doesn’t know why he is here. Jeremy is going to dig into to those marshmallows and get his beak stuck. Nancy has lost her head and Fiona her best friend, is worried that Peter might have seen something!

Three good things:

1. The idea of photographing mud.
2. When John is away at his night’s Lions meeting the cat goes mad - leaps sideways off the back of my chair, tries to hide under the mat then disappears behind the sofa! Of course there I am again on all fours stalking her!
3. Sent a huge bag of pineapple lumps (made in Oamaru) to our son and expectant wife in Canada! With instructions on use!
Awesome capture

Fantastic capture of these delightful little birds ! and I just love your hilarious commentary , makes me having to check to identify each character !! lol !! Glad you and cat have a grand play time when John is out !! -- they do say --when the cat's away ,the mice will play !! --this seems to apply to you and cat !!
August 5th, 2015
@beryl Have you ever tried moving fast on all fours, Beryl? Its exhausting!
August 5th, 2015
@maggiemae Getting down there and even up again is a problem !! lol
August 5th, 2015
@beryl That's my challenge when I'm planking - but getting stronger because of it!
August 5th, 2015
Wonderful capture!
August 5th, 2015
Beautiful! Love your commentary!
August 6th, 2015
Fantastic shot! I have never heard of feeding birds marshmallows!
August 6th, 2015
Nice colorful shot of these birds with the piercing eyes. marshmallows
soaked in honeyed water...your joking, no? what a picture it would make if they all get their beaks stuck in it.
August 6th, 2015
@bruni They seem to be able to handle it Bruni - a few of them are seen wiping their beaks on the side of the bird table! Our garden is singing with birds!
August 6th, 2015
You are hilarious in your naming and commentary of these little birds! I've never heard of putting out marshmallows! Interesting.
August 6th, 2015
What a fabulous capture and such a funny commentary to go with it! Huge Fav!
August 6th, 2015
Your commentary made me smile. What kind of birds are they? They have such big eyes.
August 6th, 2015
love...fav
August 6th, 2015
@ckwiseman I should have put out coffee with those marshmallows, Carolyn do you think?
August 6th, 2015
@skstein They are commonly known as 'ring-eyes' or silvereyes or waxes for obvious reasons! Although they are native NZ birds similar are found in different parts of the world!
August 6th, 2015
They sure seem to be enjoying their five year old lunch - do marshmallows ripen like a fine wine?
PS - looking forward to your mud photo soon!
August 6th, 2015
Great capture and love your little story to go with.
August 6th, 2015
Ahhhhhhhhhhhahahahahaha, love the narrative with this!!! Who would have thunk marshmallows would draw birds of any kind!! Do they drink the watered honey also? You really have a meeting going on there!!! Great shot!! FAV!
August 6th, 2015
Great capture and commentary! :-)
August 6th, 2015
Great shot, I am going to try that recipe when my Grandsons are not here!
August 6th, 2015
We have these little birds too and they are very social. What a great photo of them.
August 6th, 2015
@cashew I thunk that you think the right thoughts! There is nothing left!
August 6th, 2015
@dibzgreasley I see that you live in Sth Africa, Debs? I think I have seen similar birds on here on 365 from your area! I wonder what you call them!
August 6th, 2015
I think our wildlife is turning into sugar addicts....lol! These are adorable little birds, and I love the fact that you have named them....and, that you remember who is who! We have had some morning doves nesting in our yard (the first attempt resulted in a cracked egg and the abandoning of the nest, but they are back!), and we have named them Precious! Since both the male and female take turns at the nest I cannot tell who is who, so they are now The Preciouses!! Can't wait to meet the little Baby Precious! Oh, and your cat is hysterical....
August 6th, 2015
@panthora Maybe your female dove could be called "Preciousness"? and the wee one would be Preciousnette? Why don't birds get diabetes?
August 6th, 2015
Loved the commentary as much as the shot they seem to have a sugar addiction but stay slim. Grrr!
August 6th, 2015
You are too entertaining MaggieMae. I love this gathering of the clan shot!!!
August 6th, 2015
@kelly2 Thanks Irene for putting up with my nonsense! I guess if you flew around as much as they did, you would use up all the sugar in your system?
August 6th, 2015
@maggiemae part of my joy in 365 is reading the commentaries of the poster and those who've viewed it. I am never going to get involved in all the technical aspects of photography as so many do and whom I admire but I just like the contact worldwide and the different cultures aspects of life that they bring to the site so keep on with your nonsense please
August 6th, 2015
So much going on around those marshmallows. I hope they don't cause the birds stomach trouble. Love your funny narrative. Above all this is a very pretty capture.
August 6th, 2015
@kelly2 I think I must be the same as you - love the connection and the sincerity in 365 - its like hidden friends you have! Thank you for being tolerant of my ramblings!
August 6th, 2015
Looks like the birds enjoy the marshmallows. I would never have thought to put them out. I think we would get swamped by wasps here. The eyes of these little birds are quite captivating.
August 6th, 2015
Such a happy image
August 6th, 2015

Just popping in Maggiemae - love the composition
August 6th, 2015
Such a fun story you have told here. Hmmm. I'm wondering how you get to keep marshmallows for five years? No tooth decay for the birds though.
August 6th, 2015
Great story Maggie and a brilliant capture to go with it. Fav
