Who pays the ferryman.... by maggiemae

Who pays the ferryman....

The comments from all friends encourage me to keep on going…I can’t respond to all due to constraints which others do have of course.
Our last episode in the North Island was getting lost of course and having to ask help down to the inter-island ferry.
On the ferry we were surrounded by French , German and Dutch conversations plus an interesting NZ guy who had married a Singapore lady! You met all sorts and can either engage in conversation for 3 and 1/2 hours or decide to look as if you were busy on your computer.

Three good things;
1. There was a room in Picton on our arrival that was not expensive and had this wonderful view of the two ferries departing for Wellington.
2. John forgot his hearing aids were on and they got drowned in the shower. Cross fingers!
3.An Irish Pub served pizzas which didn’t compute but were good!
Wow shot for me this, fantastic!

It certainly is a busy port.. Hope Johns hearing aids are all good. . can you do what you do with cell phones when wet and put them in a container of rice.. An Italian / Irish pub interesting..

@julzmaioro The hearing aids seem to be OK, thanks Julia!

First your three good things sound interesting to me....I would perhaps find the hotel name useful if we land in Picton & want a hotel specially with a view of the ferries. I have to remember the gphearing AIDS in the shower.i was told to just open the battery compartments & leave to dry. Irish & pizza are a good mix! Love this photo as it's completely new to me. How come even a ferry port can look this good?

CNt believe the iPad has put AIDS in capital letters.....shows how things are these days....it did it again!

We spent a few days in Picton and loved it. We saw a really bizarre play there - don't ask me what it was called, or even what it was about!!! This is magnificent, the atmosphere you've created and those wonderful mountains. Fav!

Pretty view- in a misty gray sort of way! Ooops on the hearing aids! Half the fun of traveling is meeting all the different people on their way to and fro. Sounds like you received a double portion on this trip!

Super shot, layers, composition, tones

@happypat This was the Picton Yacht Club hotel and it had a swimming pool with a window in the side where you could see peoples legs etc! Too cold at this time!

Taking the ferry is always a treat! Looks like a great little harbor.

@redy4et The way over was great, Elizabeth but this time it was cold and windy and the cargo was live sheep who let us know they were in the hold by the smell coming out of the vents!

An interesting crossing by all accounts.

@tonydebont Three and a half hours does give you the feeling though that you have gone somewhere else! Somewhere more important!?

@maggiemae I enjoyed Picton when our cruise ship called in there. It was a beautiful sunny day.
November 19th, 2015
what a fabulous composition of all these ships and the dock. Looks like a very busy place.

@busylady That atmosphere does come from those bush-clad mountains that are thick right down to the sea! Love to rent one of those really isolated places only accessed by boat!

This is such a beautiful view! I especially like the wonderful lines of the hills.

Excellent shot, very moody

@graemestevens I felt moody too, Graeme -leaving behind a heap of beautiful territory! Know that the S.I has great scenes but they are so familiar!

So you are off our island. What a great trip around the coast.

When I first looked at this I thought it was a b&w but with closer view realized it wasn't. Love the mountains & moody clouds in the background of this.

November 19th, 2015
Looks like you scored with the room. Great views although rather dark looking clouds. I hope the crossing wasn't too rough!!
