Despondent at my energy levels today, I waited for an opportunity for a photo. This flower is often called Granny’s bonnet but its name is Aquilegia whatever that means. I like the Bonnet version. I positioned it against the bright sky and manipulated the setting to see it clearly as I wanted a white background.
Three good things;
1. Although I’m awfully stiff from doing gardening, I do not mind.
2. Sun dried tomatoes in the salad.
3. Everything got thorougly watered including me - so many showers I have stood under but do like our one!
That arrangement is so balanced and graceful. You dud a great job and I can see the old grannies wearing a bonnet decorated like that to the Easter parade.
This is gorgeous. Fav. I agree about the gardening. By the time I finished potting up some colour it was 7.30pm and I was too tired to even take a photo of my hard work.
This is just beautiful, fav for me. "Aquilegia" comes from the Latin word for eagle, and is supposed to refer to the perceived resemblance of the petals to eagles' claws. Here, we call it columbine, but I love the name "granny's bonnet"--much more domestic and sweet than likening the petals to claws.
Your arrangement of these old fashioned but new named 'granny's bonnets" is beautiful....the light coming through shows the colours perfectly! I think your energy levels must be at rock bottom after all your travels & then a day gardening! Slow down a bit before you're off again! I dare say the weeds have had a field day while you have been away & just at the time of year when they are rampant! Hope your cat has started eating again.
@happypat I've also picked up a dry cough - some sort of bug. Depressing - now theres a ruddy rabbit on the lawn! If there's one small rabbit there are bound to me more! But Ihaven't planted any lettuces. Farmer McGregor is fine tuning his pot shot!
@maggiemae Ha ha I can just see you glowering at that rabbit! Our rabbits are so tame that they sunbathe on the grass with their back legs stuck out! Even drive past them & they never move! I too hav a dry tickly cough for the last two weeks!
@daisymiller Thanks Daisy - but if @happypat has had her cough for 2 weeks and I have only had it for about 4 days, it looks as if its going to stick around for a while!
I went to the Chelsea Flower Show a few years ago and the display of aquelegia was breathtaking. We bought some seeds from them at great expense so that I could have some of this beauty in my garden. The seeds never germinated and I was so disappointed! I think I was robbed! Lol! Your shot is beautiful the gorgeous flower looks perfect against the white background! Fav!
This is beautiful Maggie. So pretty and delicate. Big Fav from me. Tell that rabbit to go tell it's family and friends farmer BcGregor lives there so they'd be wise to move house!
This is absolutely beautiful. Love the high key background a d light through the flowers. I too still love the garden in small doses as it doesn't love me. Had to eradicate these plants from my garden as they just took over. There are some beauties though. Fav
