Our arrival in Petropavlovsk was a silent glide with the sun shining in our open door - it was too hot and the temperature in the cabin wasn’t comfortable to sleep in. We saw snow clad mountains everywhere and small houses dotted about all off cliffs seemingly but mostly a block of apartments around. We went ashore mainly to put our feet on Russian soil. There were lots of people, both male and female with this fur hats on that seemed to be like a uniform. We envisaged KGB but really their faces were friendly!
Three good things:
1. A delightful repartee between a neat “Head Waiter’ who always has a story and can accommodate our wild imaginative stories and he said to the guest alongside us, “Welcome and how can I help you” (etc) and this guy replied “Merry Christmas”! Our guy couldn’t contain his laughter!
2. The team of white coated waiters all waiting for the guests to return from their tours, waited and I got a good photo! If they can help it, you can’t take your plate to the table yourself - they do it!
3. Our butler saw that John had this tiny shoe horn for his tightly fitting shoes and brought a long one in - about a foot long - which is so much easier - you don’t have to bend down!
@aglennc Probably looks the same as when you were there Anita. A bit untidy, broken footpaths, dreary beach but the people look happy and are so clever - they can talk Russian!
@vera365 Today we had a Russian Heritage Tasting event on boat and it was fabulous - all sorts of caviar and salmon plus a few shots of genuine Russian vodka, Vera!
Just saw this on the TT Maggie - well-deserved for this beautiful shot. Now following you also - I imagined I was already, and was surprised to find I wasn't, so that has been rectified :)
