The Loon Escape by maggiemae

The Loon Escape

We were so excited when we saw this lone duck first appear on our lake but by the time I got the camera ready it had dived! It may have popped up somewhere else but it was 10 minutes before we got another appearance!

Three Good Things:
1. I changed into summer clothes for the first time this journey!
2. No bear encounters - I'm not going walking by myself though!
3 A G&T on the pontoon late afternoon!
Amazing, those eyes are unbelievable!

What a great shot of a beautiful bird. We call them Great Northern Divers over here, but I much prefer the American name of Common Loons.

@markp They certainly are divers! We don't have them at all in NZ and are fascinated by their detail!

@maggiemae we have relations in Oshawa and Peterborough, which is not far from you. We have stayed in Kingston years back visiting our nephew who was training in the military academy there. my husband has half his family in Canada and he lived there for some of his childhood, although English born. We have been visiting for the last 20 yrs and visited Vancouver and the Island too. One year we drove a camper van from Calgary to Jasper through the Rockies and I think that was one of our best holidays ever. Glad you are having such a wow trip, been following your progress!

wonderful colours here, maggiemae. and no, if there are bear sightings around there, you do not go by yourself. better stay put and feed on ice cream. but i wonder if bears eat ice cream. i know they eat pizza.
