More life in the garden. This is a female blackbird identified by another shot on 365. Yellow beak, yellow eye ring but not black feathering.!
I had put an old cooked potato on the bird plate and she was aiming to check it out!
Don’t think it ‘cut the mustard” Another saying!
Three good things:
1. Warm day but not as warm as further up north in the North Island where another stepdaughter was sick of the hot (28deg) weather and hot wind! They had tried to cope with an extreme heated night by putting up a tent on the lawn but had to abandon at 3am when the wind became gale force!
2. I had yet another problem with the same eye and went to the optician who removed 5 lower eye-lash hairs that were growing into the cornea! Instant fix! Every 2 months I have to get them taken out!
3. Bought some duck fat! Hello crisp and flavoursome chips!
Never seen a bird photo from you before Maggie! Great shot of it & lovely dof too. The blackbird is my favourite!
Hope it stays hot in North Island, I am so ready for some warmth! Never too hot for chips!
Must be an albino blackbird. Although familiar with the term "cut the mustard" I never delved into the real meaning and origin - something that I always seem to find of interest. It's a disease. The most logical origin that I could find was that the mustard seed is small and tough, thus hard to cut, i.e. hard to succeed. Sorry!
Whats the apology for, Ron? @stray_shooter I think what you say is correct - not able to handle the job when you say 'can't'! The cut is the cropping and the mustard is the crop!
Excellent detail for this female blackbird. R has just brought me some freshly made cheese straws. They do 'cut the mustard'..they're excellent and melt in the mouth!
Hope it stays hot in North Island, I am so ready for some warmth! Never too hot for chips!
