Down in the historic part of town, there are three storey Oamaru Stone buildings built way back in the 1880’s to store various products.
Now, there is an Oamaru whisky Company that has got a lot of future!
These are some the casks up here on the 2nd floor. We were there to buy a ’cask’ of malt whisky for investment with another partner. We had to choose an oak cask from the America’s - bourbon or rye in the past or NZ, - pinot noir red wine cask. We did stick with NZ made.
Three good things:
1. We did feel we had a huge investment here.
2. Wherever we want to be here, we can park within 3 metres of our destination.
3. A new movie is being enacted in this area - something to do with World War One. Every one involved in this was having lunch underneath this particular floor while we were here. Lots of conversation and click clack of crockery!
4. One guy we met here was called James McKenzie - when he left where we were, I asked him if he was away rustling sheep! Check 1885 NZ!
That sounds very daring Maggie. A barrel of wine, are youmallowed to drink it when ever you want or is it for future bottling so you make money? Love the loook of that building! I saw a photo of some of the actors in this film on Liannes post.
@happypat It matures in the barrel for 2 years then its bottled with your own label on it, Pat! I don't think you can sell it. I saw Liana's post but not her! Think it was a fast visit for her.
Exciting! That will be quite a treasure, to have your very own whiskey, aged in wine barrels. We have wineries that are aging their wine in bourbon barrels, but I've not heard of whiskey aged in a wine barrel. I'm sure it will be wonderful!
@maggiemae There appears to be a window on your immediate left as well. Window light on wooden barrels is so warm. I love the roller coaster of light over the group of barrels.
Love the rich colours of the barrels and walls. The lighting is beautiful.....But, sadly, I'm not a whiskey drinker!.......now if they were full of wine, that might be a different story!
@janemartin Well, the good thing about whisky, Jane is that you only have a few sips (accompanied by sighs of pleasure) and so the cask or bottle lasts longer!
I like the composition and the leading lines. Nice light too. Hope you enjoy your whisky. I don't drink but I think barrels are such pleasing things to look at.
