The first leg of this train trip halted at Alpine Texas, a small town of about 5900 where there is one taxi - called Tipsy Taxi. The story is they were named that because they took tipsy people home from the pubs!
This is one of the many trains that hooted madly all day as there were numerous road crossings!
Three good things;
1. The engines hooted all throughout the night too but we were too tired to worry about that.
2. A lovely swimming pool here that was heaven in temps of 35degC or 92deg F.
3. Our first baseball game - Memorial weekend here and the town was full - baseball games as well as Graduation in the big University opposite us!
So happy to hear you are experiencing a small part of American life. The hooting trains, the baseball games, graduation, and swimming in high temperatures
Lovely powerful engines. I hope the heat doesn't affect you too much. Must be difficult to be in temperatures of 35 degrees c when you aren't used to it. I would love it to be 35 degrees today, it is beginning to feel a bit like winter is on the way.
Good shot! I love the sound of train whistles. Before we moved up to PA we lived across the streets from some tracks in NJ. Since we were near several crossings we could hear the train whistle four times before it was out of earshot.
A wonderful photo and great processing, Maggiemae. Perfect temp for swimming. Tis Memorial Day weekend, baseball and graduations. Hope you had an enjoyable time. FAV
