This is the Notre Dame Cathedral in Ottawa. I lit a candle for my sister and sat down just purely admiring the wonderful interior architecture! Then I found out a wedding was about to happen!
Three good things;
1. We waited and then the organ let loose with the most magnificent music! A man at the back knocked on the two big double doors three times, then when the overpowering music of Mendlelssohn’s wedding march started, the doors opened wide to the bride and her two consorts - parents, I think!
2. Another magic music moment inside the Museum of Art here -Forty-Part Motet consists of 40-plus voices, each singing its own part of the 16th-century choral piece Spem in Alium, by Thomas Tallis, and each heard through its own speaker. The 40 speakers are arranged around the restored, ornate chapel, so how the music sounds depends on where you’re standing in the chapel. Move, and the music moves with you. It is a transcendent experience.
3. I took a video of each of these and will keep them safe!
Wow maggie what a musical feast you have had! One of the things I like doing best when away is going in any church just to get the feel of the place & if possible to meet the locals. I will go in any denomination I couldn't care which one. A wedding is a real bonus! We went into a big church in Melbourne last year & a wedding was about to begin, they had kilts too. I have been to mass tonight & the hymns were wonderful, really uplifting. A beautiful cathedral.
@happypat Yes, Pat - I've made the wedding one into a video - should get to FB. I just love the music - couldn't really see any faces!
We wore kilts at our son's Japanese wedding in Tokyo! Well the men did!
@maggiemae I love a kilt! Our daughter & family at a wedding today in Crathie church Braemar where the Queen worships. The vicars son is marrying our daughters best friends daughter. The father is presiding over the wedding, fancy marrying your own son!
@beryl@phil_howcroft I think you both have the essence of being totally alone and totally tranquil in a place like this! Got to make the decision to go inside!
I like Belinda's comment. I've seen many Cathedrals in Europe and around North America and the one you visited in Ottawa I would like to see sometimes two. the architecture and splendor is something to behold.
Love the detail and composition, lovely on black!
