A shadow of its former self.. by maggiemae

A shadow of its former self..

I try to park some way away from wherever I want to visit and this walk took me down the main highway. One of the poor houses was here, its iron fence falling down, weeds waist high in some parts! The paintings, I've never seen on a house before!
Three Good Things:
1. My visit to the optomotrist was successful with 2 renegade eyelashes pulled out!
2. A visit to a cousin who has recently shifted into town.
3. Vegetable soup.
Looks like it was once loved.

So sad when you see a house like this - unloved! There is a house on the corner of my road which an elderly lady was living in. Always beautifully kept with gardeners every week. Sadly she died and it looks like the house has now been emptied and the garden ignored for a couple of months now. Grass waist high! Presumably waiting for someone to buy it. I wish they would get a move on as it looks so unloved now!

Perhaps it was a happy house in earlier days.
The eyelash episode sounds a bit ouchy!!! But better out than in!

Someone loved this house at one time. It’s so hard to see a house that the owners let fall into ruin. Oh my.

@sarah19 The eyelashes turn inwards instead of outwards and it irritates the eyeball intensely!

@pamknowler There were actually several along this way that were a wreck! I'd love to get in and renovate!

@julzmaioro As you say better than a butterfly! I'm surprised the colour was so good after all this time!

it looks like it was loved once

@hjbenson There are a lot of houses stilll standing that were built in the 1940's here. Lots of character!

Great capture of light and shadows...It looks like it could come back to life with some tlc.

Great shot.

Interesting... makes me wonder about the history
June 20th, 2019
This home looks as if it would have been well loved...
June 20th, 2019
Once there were people that lived there, had families and a story which the house can not tell.
June 20th, 2019
You wonder what its story was.......
June 20th, 2019
Great capture and title :)

@casablanca I wish I could know - maybe my imagination might create a story!
June 20th, 2019
@maggiemae I think Yolanda might help.......
June 20th, 2019
@casablanca You might be right - I can see her swinging her legs from this bay window, looking at the clouds going by!
June 20th, 2019
@maggiemae Ha ha, me too!
June 20th, 2019
It does look a bit sad. I hope it gets a face lift sometime soon.

This house probably had so much charm when it was cared for on a regular basis. The paintings are interesting- I don't recall seeing anyone do that to a house before. Sorry to hear it's not the only one either. Sounds like a developer bought up the land and is waiting to demolish the homes for his own project.

Needs some TLC, nice capture and such a shame

Agree, those painting are unique for house decor. well spotted.

A sad sight. It must have looked fabulous in its prime!
June 20th, 2019
@kwiksilver Yes, I can just imagine it, Gillian - a cottage garden with a nice gravel pathway to the front door!
June 20th, 2019
@olivetreeann You may have a point there, Ann but there are so many subdivisions going up on the outskirts now!

I love exploring places like this. Like the shadows and processing
June 20th, 2019
very unusual to see those paintings - they look to have been very carefully and professionally done. hope someone can spruce the place up again before too long.
