This Passion flower is not all that it seems.. by maggiemae

This Passion flower is not all that it seems..

Back home and on my walk, a bush hung out over the road with lots of tiny white flowers. I did get a photo but then came upon this flower in amongst.. its a passion fruit flower. Some types of this flower can be a weed and grow to choke the tree that they are on. I haven’t told anybody yet. You can actually see the new fruit behind.
Thankful for:
Safe trip home and the roses are blooming!
Good to hear you're back out walking again - you'll be pleased about that. Oh no - not the dreaded banana passionfruit?

@dide I think it is, Dianne! This fruit eventually turns yellow.

I put in a new passion fruit this year, Constance Elliott, a pretty white flower. I was hoping it would fruit but sadly not.

@cocobella I must have done the same thing!! Nice to see your name again!
November 25th, 2019
@casablanca Actually this is really an invasive plant - it will eventually strangle its host! I'll keep an eye on it.
November 25th, 2019
@yaorenliu The true passionfruit is hard to grow but this one is called yellow passionfruit and is really an invasive plant, Yao!
November 25th, 2019
@busylady The purple passionfruit is hard to grow here too, Judith. It needs exactly the right conditions.
November 25th, 2019
Some call it Tom Foolery- but Vikki Summerfield labeled my composites and editing "Ann Foolery" one time and it stuck.

Pretty little invasive!

November 26th, 2019
Beautiful flower. I’ve never had the fruit. Love the comp, details, and colors.
November 26th, 2019
A very pretty flower. I wonder how the fruit got it’s name.
November 26th, 2019
@congaree What an interesting question, John! I'll have to research!
November 26th, 2019
So long as its not in your garden you get to enjoy it!
November 27th, 2019
@golftragic This growth is on a fence that surrounds a large timber yard, Marnie! Nobody but me would take any interest!
November 27th, 2019
@maggiemae That's great MM. If my ageing memory serves me right, I used to eat banana passion fruit in my youth.
November 27th, 2019
@golftragic Actually that brings back a memory too when I grew up! There were these sort of passion fruit in the wild hedge on our border where we made tree houses!
November 27th, 2019
@maggiemae Wasn't it fun when we were fit enough to make tree houses?
November 28th, 2019
@golftragic I made houses in hedges (holding up a potty to the next door neighbour), underground, in a tree overhanging the footpath when I dropped things on passerby!
November 28th, 2019
I am SO happy to added this with a tag! I was unaware of how many different passion fruit existed!!! I'll be a happy camper to have my one type and happier still they they're plentiful!
September 26th, 2023
@Weezilou I planted one of the good type of passionfruit in our garden, Louise, and 2 years later, it's hardly grown and looks very raggedy! Give a lot for one flower like this wild one!
September 26th, 2023
@maggiemae This one cost about $30 and came from a nursery/ It took off immediately! I'd been paying $12 for 5 at a farmer's market, so I'm quite hopeful that this one will continue to grow happily!
