Lamingtons by maggiemae

Lamingtons

Our local Club is now open but not the restaurant. We had limits in menu and sitting! Today I've cleaned my hands about 6 times! Crikey, I must be sterile!
Thankful for:
Little pleasures like a free dessert of lamingtons and cream - both pink and chocolate are to remember!
Lovely capture. I have completely rubbed off most of the skin on my hands with constant washing - but never mind. We haven't been out yet, except for walks around our area where you don't find many people about. With Christine's hand in plaster up to the elbows it is even more complicated.

@sangwann I don't think you have to wash your hands unless you got somewhere you touch something that others might have touched. I picked up an avocado - ... but researched it doesn't hang around on newspaper, cardboard and fruits and veggies!

Great shot of what looks like slowly returning to normal for your area. Hoping it's complete soon!

I'm not ready to be as brave as you are yet.

The only place I ever saw a Lamington was in Australia and New Zealand. Great things!

We will still be staying home for quite some time. Lovely shot of enjoyment.

I love this!...eating out! Just a dream!

Nice shot.
Eating out here is possible from Monday (with a lot of restrictions...)

John looks like a happy camper :).

Yummy, hopefully in the UK we will get there one day soon

Never heard of a lamington before and looked it up! I hope you saved a piece for me but it looks as if John may not have left any!
May 30th, 2020
@grammyn As far as I'm concerned, its just a piece of sponge with icing on top. The fact that it is a cube makes it into a lamington!

@casablanca I never knew till now that Lamingtons were only Aussie or NZ. As expected they both claim originality!
May 30th, 2020
@janemartin It wasn't exotic or luxury - plain and simple but the food was so good!

@countrylassie You might have to be a little patient for a wee bit longer!

Slow progress but moving in the right direction.

My hands will have to join AA by the time this is all over!!
May 30th, 2020
@golftragic Not sure what you mean here but there has been discussion that some of us might have to join either (and as well) both AA and Jenny Craig!
May 30th, 2020
@maggiemae Most of the hand sanitisers have very high levels (70%+) of alcohol in them. Lots of discussion here too about the deleterious effect of the lockdown on people's food and booze intakes. Gotta do something to pass the time I reckon.

@golftragic Some of those old renaissance painters just painted pictures of plump ladies lying around on couches, some naked! There might have been have been a virus around then!

@maggiemae I have a great quote from Merryl Streep: Don't waste so much time thinking about what you weigh. There is no more mind-numbing, boring, idiotic, self-destructive diversion from the fun of living.'
May 30th, 2020
@maggiemae You forgot the jam and the coconut on lamingtons.
May 30th, 2020
@golftragic Yes, I don't know where the jam came in - perhaps it is coated and then the icing and coconut sticks! And Merryl has got something I totally believe in - enjoyment of life is far better for you than any food!
May 30th, 2020
oh what a delight and a fabulous capture.
May 30th, 2020
@maggiemae I'm not sure about the jam either, I suspect it's optional. The sponge cube is covered in coconut while the icing is still dripping wet and sticky. As for weight, I totally agree. But I've put on around 25Kg thanks largely to three meds that are notorious for weight gain. Off two now, but can't stop the third one. I'm uncomfortable so need to drop a few Kg, not enjoying the process one iota, I like my food and booze.

@golftragic Sounds like steroids, Marnie... and there would be a good reason for these.! Just think for the future. This covid crisis has resulted in both of us eating more chocolate than we ever did plus ice creams!

@maggiemae Nah, tamoxifen post-breast cancer surgery for 5 years and happy pills for longer than that after prolonged metallosis and four subsequent surgeries and permanent hip impairment from the faulty metal-on-metal DePuy hip replacement prostheses from Johnson&Johnson that led to class actions across the world, including NZ. The third med will be ongoing to deal with the aftermath of severe nerve damage in my right foot and ankle which has seriously limited my physical movement/s.
May 31st, 2020
@golftragic Oh, Marnie - I don't think you are joking! You have gone through so much that most people don't even dream about - make that nightmares! I do admire your stamina and sense of humour while still handling all this! Number One, lady!

@maggiemae No problemo MM, you're cut from the same cloth. No point in dwelling on that kind of stuff is there? When all this covid rubbish is over we may well come across the ditch. If so, will make a point of coming to your neck of the woods. Lots of good photo ops there for someone like me too. I've only ever spent a couple of hours in Oamaru in 2008 when my group stopped for lunch there. I skipped lunch and took some photos, including one of an overturned bus under your rail bridge.
