An exclamation used when extremely surprised, excited or horrified. Is always followed by an exclamation point when written out.
The first known use of egad was in 1673
Used to mean "ye gods" and now is more closely linked to "OMG" or "oh god" (which grates on me after a devoted presbyterian upbringing)
Thankful for:
Have never encountered something like this!
surely that mouse is too tiny to be a real one peeking out of your boots? if it aint for real, you have placed it very convincingly. Egads! is just about the right expression for such a narrow miss.
Is he for real...I would t put it past you to have your own tame mouse specially for this photo! Egads but you a brave woman with your foot so close! Glad to hear someone else hates the OMG etc expression...especially when children say it. Wash your mouth out!
@happypat No mice in our little abode, Pat. A mouse trap got 2 earlier in the year but none since. My boots are kept outside on the back steps so wouldn't put it past a mouse to get in there!
