It is always preceded by loud and constant mooing from the hundreds of calves awaiting a new home. Today I walked down and smelt them before seeing them. Fascinating to see all the different breeds. The totally black cattle are hard to photograph so I used sepia to make them more visible
Thankful for:
A sunny day again- April is much better than March was!
I like the tones. Beautiful shot. Glad they are going to a new home and not to the slaughter house. I'm glad I have never been to watch them being slaughtered - I don't have a heart for that.
These are the same saleyards @julzmaioro and I stopped to look at a few years ago. We got the feeling we were not welcome with our cameras, but after chatting with a few locals they realised we weren’t animal rights activists after all! Looks good in sepia.
Very nice in sepia tone. As a kid I lived across the street from a cow farm. The smells could be quite strong, but to this day when I smell it, it brings back fond memories of the days playing on the farm.
My great uncles had a dairy and we would spend a month of our summer there. Like @mccarth1 I get happy memories to this day from the smell of a cow farm. Very odd.
I love these cattle sales. I was very intrigued the way you can walk along the boards over the top of the pens, quite different to our auction sales where they go into a ring to be sold. Love the smells too but that’s home to me.
@pandorasecho My brother in law had a farm that we stayed at in our school holidays and I agree with you - the smell of the cow yards - open air and countryside!
@bill_gk I suppose you could call it a market, Bill. They are all auctioned off to the dozens of farmers who descend on to this place on Calf Sale day!
@yaorenliu I couldn't smell it till I was 2 metres away but I daresay if there was more wind perhaps only 1 house would be able to smell it. Lots of fields around.
Ann. I hear the sheep on the Mondays and the calves on this day so clearly!
